Early School DaysIn her younger years, Valerie and her family lived in several different states due to her father being transferred all around the country by his employer at General Motors. Valerie was born in Delaware, moved to Michigan in 1969, then Los Angeles, California in 1971, and possibly many other cities and states. In the fourth grade, in Michigan, Valerie was dubbed as the cutest girl in class by her classmates who would get all the boys, some like Stan from South Park to throw up impusively as well. Valerie says she remembers being in a kissing contest but doesn't realize who it was that she was kissing. They were in a contest to see who could kiss the longest. On the surface, Valerie seemed to adjust to being in a new school with ease, but moving had its effect on her. The seeds of insecurity had taken root. She must have always been in a shell and didn't act out a lot. By junior high, her family moved again in 1971 to Los Angeles. Valerie says she remembers it being tough and not wanting to move; the older she got, the less she wanted to move, and that's why probably they lived in the So. Cal area for over 17 years. Although she had three brothers and her family to keep her company, Valerie missed her elementary school friends and grown shy. Several facts were taken off the Lifetime "Intimate Portrait" of Valerie Bertinelli with added facts from "The Complete Directory To Prime Time Network Shows" by Tim Brooks. |
