We Are FamilyThe 80's was a decade that Valerie dedicated to her career. In the 1990's, Valerie would turn her attention towards her home and her family. In the early summer of 1990, Valerie found out she was pregnant. It was a happy time for all. The big day in 1991 would arrive as on March 16, in a Santa Monica hospital, Valerie and Eddie Van Halen gave birth that evening to their firstborn, a son, Wolfgang William Van Halen, or Wolfie as he's known. A lot of people asked why they named their son Wolfie. Some say it was after CNN Gulf War reporter Wolf Blitzer, others thought other things, but he was named after the 18th century German composer, Wolfgang Armadeus Mozart, who many in the classical music expertise consider the world's first rock and roll composer. Valerie says she didn't know what she did with her life before she had her son, it didn't mean anything, now her life means something. Wolfie's birth was a joyous occasion. Now with her newborn son, and a husband she loves, life had never been better. Valerie says she thinks she always knew that motherhood was something she would be good at, but she has her doubts these days every so often, but, every change Wolfie goes through, her doubts won't be able to keep up with him, but, he's such an amazing child, that he makes Valerie feel like a really good mother. Motherhood had changed her enormously. She is one of the absolutely crazy-in-love mothers with her child. She told a reporter on ET about her 1986 pregnancy that would end in a miscarriage: "The miscarriage I had was an accidental pregnancy, and yes, it was tragic, I mean, we wanted the baby when I found out that I was pregnant. We kept putting it off and putting it off...and finally when they cancelled Sydney (in 1990), Ed and I said 'OK, let's go for it, we're not getting any younger,' and two weeks later, I found out I was pregnant." She also said that the role as mother was her favorite role, the only role she wanted, she was meant to be Wolfie's mom.
