Taken Away (Nov 5, 1989)

Summary: A hard-working single mother is forced to leave her daughter at home for a few hours a day because she cannot afford day-care. When a minor emergency crops up her daughter calls for help, and soon charges of child neglect are brought against the mother and the child disappears into the bureacracy of the welfare system.

Divorced and struggling to make ends meet, Stephanie Monroe ( Valerie Bertinelli ) waits tables during the day and studies to be a computer operator at night, all in the hope of creating a better life for herself and her eight-year-old daughter Abby ( Juliet Sorcey ). While alone Abby confronts a minor emergency and dials 911 as her mother has taught her. But instead of providing assistance, the call results in charges of child neglect, and suddenly Stephanie's daughter is taken away by the welfare system.
